Filters?

Hi all. Something flipped by amits all of the replys to threads containing bad language. I think this filter might be a good idea for those who wish to use them. I have no idea what might go into createing such a thing, but here is what I am thinking. You'd have a filter list. Each user would have to put in which words they would want filterd. Then there would be an option as to where these words are filterd. For example, filter in: Mass QuickNotes? Private Messages? The Boards? Etc. These options would be checkboxes as to where on the site the words would be filterd. Each word in the list of filters would be in an add filters edit box, with a cama to seperate each word. Maybe at some point in the future, one could save filterd word lists as files, so they could be imported and exported to TheZone. This, of corse would only be possible user-to-user. This way, everyone is happy. Its my idea, and it just might work. What do you all think? No one would be told what to say and not say then, and those who don't want to hear it won't have too. Maybe I am crazy, but it is something I think that just flipped through the cracks, and might just work for those who wish to use them. This would be in adition to the Ignore feature allready present. Again, I don't know how much work would go into createing such a thing, but the idea is out there for comment. Would be interesting to hear any thoughts good, bad, or indifferent about this. Thanks, John

Proboards has something to this effect. Only the admins could controled censor words. Which I have no problem with strong language. But there are people who really get on my nerves about saying bad language shouldn't be on here. Hince the 2 users who posted about it. ....There is one problem: You do it for here, you better do it for the rest of the site. It might become a problem in private messages and in quick notes. And if this kind of filter gets put up I really don't wanna hear anymore complaining about language. Of course if the user knows the group of people who uses strong language on a day by day basis (uses it frequently on here.) to just avoid them all together. But the filter thing for individial users is a good idea. But remember John, they the admins allow freedom of speech and expression.

Hmmm, a filter, good idea, but if you're using jfw or window eyes, couldn't you just replace words like fuck with other words, or in the later versions of jfw, with sound affects, or nothing at all?

Just Curious...
